Enterprise Agility Deep Dive

I have a firmer grasp of the actual change challenges I’m navigating right now and have a number of actions and experiments that are clear to me after some of the activities and discussions that happened during the course.

Helgi Gudmundsson, Organisational & Leadership Coach

I’ve met some great people who I want to stay in contact with and I learned a lot of valuable tools and techniques that I will be able to use in the future.

Amy Wright, Principal Agile Transformation Consultant at PA Consulting

Ryan is a fantastic instructor, communicator and listener who is incredibly knowledgeable and reads the room well.

What makes the Lean Change approach different?

Sometimes, as change agents, we forget that organisations are social systems. While our brains desperately want change to follow a linear and standardised progression, we know complex organisational change never has, and never will, work that way. Lean Change Management is a co-created, feedback-driven approach to change inspired by the latest ideas from Lean Startup, Change Management, Agile, Design Thinking and Complexity Thinking.

The Enterprise Agility Deep Dive with Lean Change Management is designed to equip you with the skills to deal with the most pressing challenges facing enterprise coaches and facilitators today.

  • How can we facilitate organisational alignment for change?
  • How can we adapt our organisational design for agility and adaptivity to change?
  • How can we embrace and reduce uncertainty by iterating our way through change?
  • How can we integrate change management to transition to agile ways of working in an agile way?
  • How can we apply lean-agile practices to complex agile transformation programmes?
  • How can we reframe resistance to change by changing how we think about change?

Who is the Enterprise Agility Deep Dive for?

This Enterprise Agility Deep Dive is intended for you if:

  • You’re an agile coach at the enterprise and portfolio level or you aspire to such a role
  • You’re a transformational leader who wants to understand the implications of enterprise agile transformation as well as how to approach and facilitate the change
  • You have a strong background in change management and/or organisational design and have a curiosity about agile approaches at the enterprise level

This Enterprise Agility Deep Dive is NOT intended for you if:

  • You don’t want to be safely stretched or challenged
  • You expect the majority of the programme to be about agile scaling frameworks “because enterprise agility = frameworks and frameworks = enterprise agility”
  • You hold tightly to the belief that an “Agile Centre of Excellence” and an “Agile Playbook” are the magical solutions to enterprise agility
  • You’re fixed in your belief that you’re not contributing to the problem, ever

Topics Covered

Enterprise Agility Foundations

In this part of the Deep Dive you will…

  • learn the importance of moving away from linear thinking and towards thinking in complex adaptive systems
  • build an awareness of organisational interdependence and of systems thinking
  • experience how “systems feeling” and “systems being” are the missing links for solving complex, “wicked problems”
  • learn ways of making business agility and innovation part of the organisational DNA in an age of disruption
  • learn how to adapt and evolve the structures and processes of your organisation or business unit for agility
  • address the controversial topic of enterprise agile frameworks and how we might usefully draw from them
  • consider what and how to measure what really matters in order to adapt more rapidly to emergent change
  • apply the learnings through conducting a company-wide agile transformation case study

Facilitating Change and Transformation

In this part of the Deep Dive you will…

  • practice the shifts required to move from managing change to facilitating change
  • understand your role as a change agent – what stances, skills, strengths, ways of being, attributes, models and toolsets you bring
  • apply the Agile values and principles to facilitating change
  • learn how to use light-weight tools for change readiness, change liftoffs, and ongoing facilitation of change
  • learn ways to create continuous alignment, visibility and transparency instead of writing endless status reports and communication plans
  • learn how to move away from change activities and towards change experiments
  • explore how different people respond to change differently, and how you, the change agent, can navigate that complexity
  • explore ways of building systemic permission and alignment with leaders and leadership teams
  • build an understanding of how diverse culture and leadership styles create the natural and positive friction that moves transformation forward

Some Practices You’ll Explore

  • Ecocycle Planning – using the cycles of nature to address the organisational cycles of change
  • Waves of Change – when to swim with or against the currents of change
  • The Lean Change Engine – applying Agile, Lean Startup and Design Thinking to change
  • Boundary Spanning Leadership – facilitating change across organisational boundaries
  • Perspective Mapping – beneficial coherence starts by bringing in all perspectives
  • Ripple Diagrams – a tool to help us visualise the ripples our changes are causing
  • Change Canvases – catalysing and facilitating ongoing alignment through visual and tactile collaboration

  • The 5 Universals of Change – a compass for navigating change
  • Culture Mapping – a complexity approach to making sense of culture shifts
  • Leadership Agility with StrongSuits™ – diverse leadership strengths build agility and resilience
  • Large Group Facilitation – bringing all voices into the room through Lean Coffee, Boundary Spanning, Open Space, Hot Seat, World Cafe, Fish Bowl and more

More Past Participant Feedback

After completing the course four months ago, I’ve found myself revisiting the slides and notes on a weekly basis, each time discovering useful concepts that can be applied to my professional environment.

The course has significantly enhanced my skills, enabling me to shape my company’s strategy, improve my project management skills, facilitation (lean coffee rules!), foster team dynamics, and more—all through simple dialogue and co-creation with the people I work with[…]

It has been one of the most useful courses I have ever attended.

Jed Gorka, Scrum Master and Agile Project Manager, participant of the Enterprise Agility Deep Dive (Nov 2023)
